Trabecular Bone Score

The measure of bone quality, not just quantity

Bones do more than hold us up, and their strength depends on more than density alone. Here's what that means for you.

Osteoporosis if often silent

Many people don't know they have it until a bone breaks

Why it matters

Strong bones, a fuller life

Your bones give your body structure, protect your organs, and let you move. As we age — or because of certain medical conditions — bones can change in ways that make them more likely to break.

Osteoporosis is a condition where bones become fragile and more likely to break, sometimes from a minor fall or even everyday movements like bending or coughing. It's often called a "silent" disease because there are usually no symptoms until a bone breaks. Understanding and looking after your bone health helps prevent fractures and keeps you mobile and independent.

Understanding TBS

How TBS® looks beyond bone density

Beyond bone density

See the quality of your bones, not just the amount

A bone density (DXA) scan measures how much mineral is in your bones. But two people with the same bone density can have very different bone quality (how well the bone is built inside.) That internal structure matters for how strong your bones really are.

Trabecular Bone Score® (TBS®) works alongside your bone density test, using the same scan — with no additional radiation, or time — to give your doctor extra information about the quality of your bones and personalise your care.

BMD alone can't identify bone quality

Bone density can appear normal, even while the structure is weak

TBS® is available at imaging centres and clinics in 90+ countries. Ask your doctor whether TBS® can be added to your bone density scan.
